CENTRE PHILOSOPHY

At Ashdale ELC, we exist to create opportunities for children to flourish and grow in body, mind and spirit – building the foundations they need for school, for relationships and for life.

Our purpose is to ensure every child who learns with us develops the wellbeing, confidence and capabilities they need to flourish now and into the future.

DEVELOPING SCHOOL READINESS

We offer an evidence-based School ReadY program in our Kindy room. Designed for children ages 3 to 5, the program builds essential literacy, language, social-emotional, and numeracy skills, helping them flourish at school and in life. A Literacy Specialist partners with the team and provides regular coaching to strengthen delivery of the School ReadY program.

Our programs support each child’s interests and development, with a focus on:

Wellbeing: We place a strong emphasis on social and emotional development, ensuring every child feels safe, secure, and supported as they grow into confident individuals
Play-based learning: We encourage children to follow their interests, build confidence, and develop essential life skills in a supportive and engaging environment
School ReadY: A specialised program in our Kindy rooms for children aged 3 to 5 that builds literacy, numeracy (STEM), and social-emotional skills, preparing them for school and life

Our routine is flexible with a mix of planned learning experiences and child-led activities. Here’s a guide to what a usual day looks like:

7:00am Centre opens, meet and greet families
8:00am Separate rooms as required based on ratios and children’s needs
8:45am Kiya morning mat time
9:00am Morning tea in the Piazza
9:30am Tabletop activities, mat time, or outdoor play (including the School ReadY Literacy and Language program in the Kindy room)
10:00am Nappy change time*
10:45am Mid-morning mat time – songs, stories, and child engagement
11:00am Lunch in the Piazza
11:30am Rest, sleep, and quiet experiences, indoor or outdoor play
2:00pm Afternoon tea in the Piazza
Throughout the afternoon Indoor engagement with children
6:00pm Centre closes

*Change nappies every two hours and when soiled.

Hi, I’m Denise McCrory, the Centre Director at Ashdale Early Learning Centre. I hold a Diploma in Children’s Services and bring over 25 years’ experience in childcare. I’m passionate about amplifying children’s voices and creating developmental opportunities that help them flourish. I take pride in leading a caring, dedicated team of educators who believe in the power of inspiring young minds.
