A few years ago, Amani never imagined she would be speaking at a national conference, sharing her story with educators and leaders. Back then, school was a place where she felt invisible, unsupported, and defined only by grades and results. Everything changed when Amani joined Y School. With the support of teachers and staff who never gave up on her, Amani rediscovered her love of learning and built confidence in herself.

Liam’s time at the Y School opened the door to opportunities he may never have imagined. After completing the Kokoda Trek, he developed a strong passion for leadership and serving others. Following graduation, Liam was accepted as a Cadet with the West Australian Police and enlisted in the Army Reserve. In 2025, he reached another incredible milestone when he was accepted into the Australian Federal Police.

Ataea and Sophie’s time at the Y School opened the door to opportunities to lead and advocate for change. After representing student voice at the Together for Humanity National Youth Summit in Canberra and presenting at Federal Parliament, they continued pursuing their passion for social justice. Ataea has begun studying Social Work at UNSW after receiving an Indigenous Merit Scholarship, while Sophie is continuing her studies and developing her leadership through the Youth Parliament program.

Paige is a young Yamatji Wongi young person who joined the Y School in October last year. Since then, Paige has grown in confidence and found a supportive learning environment where she has been able to thrive. Her original artwork, inspired by this year’s NAIDOC Week theme ’50 Years of Deadly’, has earned her the competition’s top prize, a $1,000 award and the opportunity to have her design featured on the Y’s official limited-edition NAIDOC T-shirts.
