Child & Parent Support Centre

At our South Hedland Child and Parent Centre, families with children ages 0 to 8 (including expectant parents) can access practical support to help their children learn, grow and flourish.

Child Health Services

Access to health professionals who can support your child’s physical development and wellbeing.

  • Access to health professionals who can support your child’s physical development and wellbeing
  • Weekly Child Development Service Drop-In Clinics - professional advice and referrals with speech pathologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and dietetics in attendance weekly
  • Regular ear health screenings and delivered by the Earbus Foundation of WA for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and other vulnerable children at high risk of otitis media

Parenting Support

Practical guidance, resources and connection with other parents navigating similar experiences.

  • A Weekly practical parenting workshops run by health practitioners, providing support with feeding, sleep, development, and early parenting
  • The Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) is an evidence-based program that offers practical strategies to build positive relationships, support child development, and manage behaviour with confidence

Early Learning Activities

Play-based programs that support cognitive, social, emotional and physical development.

  • Play-based programs that support cognitive, social, emotional and physical development
  • Play at the Park Playgroup, offered three times a week during school terms from 9:30am to 11:30am on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for children 0-5 years of age
  • Two-hour long school holiday program delivered Monday to Friday, featuring fun activities and a healthy morning tea for children aged 0-12 years of age

We support families with children from birth to 8 years old. We also welcome expectant parents who want to connect with services and other families before their baby arrives.

Child and Parent Centres offer a wider range of services beyond playgroups. While we do run early learning activities, we also provide child health services, parenting support, school readiness programs and connections to other community resources. It’s a one-stop hub for family support.

You don’t need a referral to access the centre. Families can contact us directly or drop in during opening hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm). Our team will help you access the services that best support your family’s needs.
