About the Y School

We are one school, with multiple campuses
The Y School operates across multiple campuses to meet the diverse needs of students. Each campus is led by its own Deputy Principal and dedicated team, ensuring personalised learning support and a strong community connection.
Mirrabooka 7-9 Campus
Our Mirrabooka campus located at 24 Chesterfield Road (opening in 2026) supports students in Years 7-9, creating a seamless pathway to the senior campus.

Working together for every student
From leaders who guide our vision to educators and support staff who nurture learning and wellbeing, every role at the Y School helps create a safe, engaging, and culturally respectful learning environment for students to flourish.
Deputy Principals
Each campus has its own Deputy Principal who leads the team and ensures high standards of education and safety.
Teachers
We have a passionate and dedicated team of Teachers with diverse experiences and backgrounds. Their expertise ensures high-quality learning across all subject areas.
Education Assistants
For our 7-9 students, Education Assistants play a vital role in supporting learning and wellbeing.
Administration
Each Y School campus has a Campus Administrator who greets visitors and answers calls, ensures the campus runs smoothly, supports the Deputy Principals in communicating with families, connects staff with external stakeholders. The administration team also includes the Corporate Services Coordinator and Referrals and Funding Coordinator
Support Services
The Y School provides comprehensive student support services to support the wellbeing, learning and engagement of young people in alternative education. This includes roles such as an Aboriginal Islander Education Officer (AIEO), Youth Workers, and a School Counsellor.

More than just a school.
To all staff, thank you all for going out of your way to create a school that not only teaches education but also teaches us how to become better humans and to never give up.
Finally seen and heard.
I have never been in an environment where I felt heard, seen and listened to. I never felt hope or peace until I enrolled into this school, I wasn’t treated like a criminal or monster, I was finally treated as a human being. Having this opportunity in a new environment, with new people and a better perspective on what I want to be when I grow up, has really provided me with confidence and positivity and I am certain that I can put my mind to anything I set it to.
A turning point.
When I finally returned to Australia I enrolled in school and spent a year forcing myself to fit in before giving up. School became six hours a day of trying to stay alive. When my grades hit a critical level, I was transferred to The Y School. There, everything changed for me. It was easier to make friends, and the classes were engaging. I could finally envision a future for myself too.
Support that changed everything.
School’s never been for me. Not until I got to the Y School. The Y School has been supportive of everything I have needed help for and collaborated with me to get to the places I have wanted to be for an extended period…. A lot of my success with managing my anger has come from the support and work from the Youth Workers to help me get it to where it is today.”

Thriving again.
Amani is so happy at [the] Y School & is loving the schoolwork this year too. She was always such a clever kid who thrived by learning, until high school and her mental health took over. So, seeing her thriving & hearing her excitement over more complicated work is the best thing.
Becoming a confident young man.
My son initially began his journey at the Y [school] … in 2023. It took time for him to trust and adjust to a supported educational environment, but he soon discovered that the Y School was unlike any other he had attended. Through the programme, he participated in short courses – including a barista and snake handling course- and was supported in obtaining his learner’s driver’s licence. He also formed a strong connection with his teacher, a relationship that has been crucial in helping him not only manage but also build meaningful community connections. While his journey has been far from easy, the transformation we’ve witnessed is nothing short of remarkable. Today, he is confident, optimistic, mature, forward-thinking, and motivated by his goals and aspirations. He is no longer the troubled boy who first arrived at the Y School – he is now a young man full of promise.
