Support Services

Our support team consists of an Aboriginal Islander Education Officer (AIEO), Youth Workers and a School Counsellor.

The Y School strongly believes that all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students deserve culturally appropriate support and meaningful opportunities to connect with community and culture.

The AIEO role includes:

  • Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in culturally appropriate ways
  • Sharing cultural knowledge with staff and students
  • Promoting cultural understanding and safety across the campus
  • Creating opportunities for students to connect with community and culture
  • Delivering culture and community sessions to foster learning and growth

The Y School employs professional Youth Workers to provide a holistic approach to student wellbeing.

Their role includes:

  • Supporting physical and mental health through school-based intervention and referrals to external agencies
  • Delivering Protective Behaviours curriculum and monitoring wellbeing and pathways for Junior students
  • Assisting senior students with wellbeing and future planning, including pathway planning and connections to courses and training opportunities

Our School Counsellor provides confidential counselling and support to students, supporting emotional wellbeing, resilience and positive coping strategies.

The Counsellor works in collaboration with students, parents/carers and/or guardians, school staff and external services to support young people experiencing social, emotional or personal challenges that may impact their learning and wellbeing.

Further Support Beyond the School Day

Our wider Youth Services team delivers engaging programs and workshops year-round to help young people stay connected to their peers, community and trusted adults.

These programs support young people to:

  • Build positive relationships and social connection
  • Develop confidence, skills and resilience
  • Stay engaged with their community in safe, supportive environments
