Scott at the YACWA Awards in 2026

This year, YSchool Alumni Scott proudly represented the Y WA at the YACWA Youth Awards, taking to the stage in front of more than 350 people to present The Y WA Collective Award.

It was a significant moment for Scott, who enrolled at the Y School in 2024 after becoming disengaged from education and struggling to make positive choices. With support from the Y School, Scott reconnected with learning, built his confidence and graduated in 2025.

Scott is one of more than 183 students supported by the Y School over the 2024-25 financial year to work towards their individual goals, whether by re-engaging with education, accessing additional support or receiving individualised case management.

Speaking at the YACWA Youth Awards was another milestone in Scott’s journey. He described the experience as an honour and a privilege, saying it helped him recognise what he is capable of and opened his eyes to new opportunities to lead and contibute.

Since graduating, Scott has continued to flourish, becoming a Peer Mentor with Old Ways New Ways and being named Young Person of the Year at the Mirrabooka NAIDOC Awards.

Now, Scott is focused on continuing to grow as a leader, giving back to his community and inspiring other young people to believe in what they can achieve.
